During the summer months, we spend a lot of time on our back deck. The door mat that we had been using for the past few years was literally falling apart - it even had holes in it. This mat consisted only of fabric, with no rubber backing, so I decided to look for a much sturdier door mat, and found one at my local Fred Meyer store.
I fell in love with this beautiful door mat! It is made by Bacova Floor Dimensions, and measures 30 inches long by 18 inches wide. The back of the mat is made of a natural rubber, and the sides are also made of a black rubberized material, except they are thicker and have a raised scroll design all around the perimeter.
The rubber scroll border is 2 1/4 inches wide, and the mat itself is a hefty 10mm thick! The center of the door mat has a diamond shape pattern, in a basket weave, and looks like it's made out of the hemp that I use for macrame. It is tan colored.
The tag that I removed from my door mat says this is for outdoor use only, is easy to care for, and it says that the "natural coir scrapes shoes clean".
Why I Love My Bacova Door Mat
Fred Meyer had a black door mat that consisted of 100% rubber, there were little rubber spikes sticking up all over the top that allowed you to wipe your shoes off before coming into your home. I almost purchased this, but when I laid it on the floor of the store and tried it out, I realized that while it may remove the surface dirt from shoes, I couldn't see how it would dry shoes. I felt there would still be enough on the bottoms of my shoes to allow me to drag dirt and mud into the house.
Then I saw this Bacova Floor Dimensions door mat and fell in love with the design, and on top of that it is made extremely well and it is very heavy and durable! The raised diamond patterns works like an exfoliator, it allows me to rub my shoes clean! The scroll pattern around the perimeter keeps the hemp from fraying and looks very attractive.
Even my husband noticed and commented on the looks of this Bacova Floor Dimensions door mat, and he rarely even notices these kinds of things around the home.
This rug retailed for $14.99 at Fred Meyer, but I found it online at Lowe's for $9.98, but then of course I would have to pay for shipping, so it probably evens out in the end. I don't know if it is available through my local Lowe's store or not, but it is worth checking out when it comes time to replace the door mat in the front of our home.
I love that this rug is made of all natural materials, natural rubber and natural hemp, which makes sense ecologically, and aesthetically too. Hemp is stronger than other fabrics such as cotton, and I have read that it actually becomes stronger over time. It is resistant to mildew, so this is a perfect choice for an outdoor mat, since it will be subject to the elements like wind, rain and snow.
The tag gives directions for cleaning, which are very simple. It says to "Clean by shaking out. Rinse with hose". Can't get much easier than that! I really love this door mat!
